NORD-ACT
Nordic Alliance for Clinical Trials in Obstetrics and Gynecology

From National Studies to Nordic Multicenter Collaboration
NORD-ACT was founded in 2024. The goal is to have a network where researchers within obstetrics and gynecology in the Nordic countries can escalate their research from national to international by establishing collaboration between relevant research groups and clinics in the countries concerned.
Participating countries at foundation are Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland.
Relevant studies for NORD-ACT rely on participation of more than one country within the alliance. Preferable studies are multicenter clinical trials, i.e. relying on clinical resources, but registerbased observational studies can be supported.
The NORD-ACT steering committee includes NFOG members from each country representing the national research networks or appointed by the national society.
NORD-ACT does not:
- Decide whether a project should or should not be implemented, but to assess whether a project is suitable for and will benefit from being part of the network.
- Change a project‘s purpose or design.
- Wish to gain ownership or co-autorship in projects within NORD-ACT
How to become NORD-ACT study:
- The study must first be approved by the national network (Icelandic representatives in the NORD-ACT board approve for Iceland).
- After this, the study is presented and discussed with the NORD-ACT steering group, which will determine whether it is suitable for the other Nordic countries. One NORD-ACT board member will be appointed as the contact person.
- The national representatives in NORD-ACT will distribute the protocol to their national research networks for discussion, including the name of the NORD-ACT contact person, contact details of the coordinating principal investigator (PI), and/or the national principal investigator, if such a person is already on board. When the national research networks have decided, they will address the NORD-ACT contact person.
- The NORD-ACT contact person and national representatives in the NORD-ACT steering group will present the resulting decision of each national research network at the upcoming NORD-ACT meeting, and a decision will be made on whether the study qualifies as a NORD-ACT study. The decision will be sent by mail to the coordinating PI. If the study is found suitable, the NORD-ACT contact person will connect the PI with the national networks.
